Hebe albicans - Veronica - A bushy much-branched mound of dense blue-grey foliage, 30-45cm high, covered in summer with short well-shaped spikes of white flowers opening from pinkish buds. Very attractive in full flower, and equally worthwhile for its foliage, this makes a good specimen for a container as well as an excellent border shrub.
Hebe albicans Red Edge - Veronica - A popular cultivar distinguished by dark red margins around the grey green leaves, which become suffused with maroon in winter transforming the plant into a striking feature. A dense compact grower of 40-60cm, bearing lilac flowers which fade to white during the summer. This is a particularly attractive form for the winter months, either in the border or in a container.
Hebe Baby Marie - Veronica - A beautiful neat shrub with small green leaves closely arranged on reddish brown stems, and very pale lilac, almost sessile flowers which smother the plant in late April/May. This hebe only tends to grow to 20cm or so, and is one of the earliest to flower. It is a good choice for small tubs, raised beds, rockeries and front of border, associating well with other small plants.

Younger leaves can turn bright yellow in some conditions. Spikes of white flowers are borne during May and June. Reaching 30-40cm, this is a good evergreen background plant for a border. It also makes a closely-knit hedge if plants are spaced 20-30cm apart.

Hebe pinguifolia pagei - veronica - This forms low carpeting mounds of slightly concave rounded grey leaves on brown stems. Masses of white flowers in short spikes cover the plant in May. Only 15cm high, it is excellent in groups, forming effective ground cover, the stems rooting as they grow. It is also useful at the front of a border, makes an attractive rockery plant, and can be used as an edging plant for large containers.
Hebe rakaiensis (Subalpina) - veronica - A compact rounded bushy species with quite long, narrow, bright green leaves, glossy on the upper surface. Crowded spikes of white flowers appear near the ends of the branches during June and July. The glossy foliage on well-branched stems, with the added bonus of a free-flowering habit, makes this an ideal hedging plant. Growing to 40-60cm, it is suitable for a taller hedge than other recommended varieties. It is also a good form for borders and pots.
Hebe salicifolia - veronica - Evergreen upright shrub. Frost hardy. Has long narrow pointed pale green leaves and in summer slender spikes of small 4 lobed white or pale lilac flowers. Height and spread 2.5m. Requires sull sun and well drained soil.
Hebe Sapphire - veronica - An upright well-branched shrub bearing attractive dark green red-flushed foliage with reddish midribs, the whole appearing almost purple in winter. Young leaves in particular have a distinct reddish tinge during winter and spring. Long spikes of rosy purple flowers cover the plant in summer and autumn. Although this can grow up to 135cm, it can be kept shorter by regular pruning. It is not suitable for exposed sites but is a colourful shrub to include in a border surrounded by other plants for some protection.

Hebe Topiaria - veronica - This forms a completely rounded compact hummock, 30-60cm high, of closely-packed oval grey green leaves. It is an excellent hedging hebe, with its dense branching habit and trim foliage, responding well to regular clipping. A spacing of 20-30cm is recommended for hedges. It also makes a very effective specimen shrub, and is a neat grey foliage plant for the border, eventually becoming wider than it is high.
