Cornus controversa variagata, A handsome deciduous species which makes a tree to about 12m with age, with a straight trunk and horizontal tiers of foliage. The glossy, strongly veined leaves have creamy white margins and are arranged alternately on the reddish twigs. In bloom it is very showy with white flowers in flat clusters about 10cm across borne in early summer. The fruit are shiny black and in autumn the foliage is red to purple.
