Towards vertical agriculture
Indoor farming does not use natural sunlight and soil in its process, it is replaced by LED lights and nutrient solutions.
Rows of LED lights illuminate some 400 m² of hydroponic green leafy vegetables layered on a plant growing frame, which produces up to 200 kg of vegetables per day.
These vegetables are grown in what are called vertical farms; it is also considered green and pollution-free, as no pesticides are used throughout the growing process. Therefore, the vegetables produced are juicy, crunchy and sweet and can be eaten without much washing and, as such, are popular in local markets.
With automatic temperature and humidity control in a clean environment, other than nutrients and LED lights, vertical farming will avoid the normal challenges that traditional farming faces like insects and disease.
